Keep Gilmer Beautiful helps to educate and create awareness of how best to implement the 3-R’s
Keep Gilmer Beautiful is an official affiliate of the national organization, Keep America Beautiful Inc., and of the state organization, Keep Georgia Beautiful.
The Keep Gilmer Beautiful program is comprised of a group of concerned citizens with a purpose to educate and inspire all Gilmer County citizens to take ownership of the environment to ensure that Gilmer County stays clean and beautiful for future generations.

How and Where to Recycle
3 Convenience Centers Offer a Compactor for Recycled Items
Cartecay: 4154 Hwy 52 East
Coosawattee: 1738 Hwy 382 West
Tower Road: 456 Tower Road
There is NO CHARGE for recycling. The following items are accepted:
Paper
Newspaper and inserts, craft paper, paper grocery and shopping bags, tissue boxes, paper towel, and toilet paper cores, cereal boxes, shoe boxes, magazines, catalogs, envelopes, calendars, phone books, paperback books, computer paper, junk mail, greeting cards, beverage and cigarette cartons.
Recycling a stack of newspapers just three feet high saves one tree.
Cardboard
Recycling one ton of cardboard saves 46 gallons of oil.
Food Cans
Recycling seven steel cans save enough energy to power a 60-watt bulb for 26 hours.
Beverage Cans
Recycling one aluminum saves enough energy to keep a 100-watt bulb burning for four hours.
Plastic
Plastics with these numbers: #3 through #7, milk jugs (#2), soda & water bottles (#1), plastic detergent bottles (#2)
Five two-liter bottles produce enough polyester for a square yard of carpet.

Adopt-a-Road Overview
Keep Gilmer Beautiful’s program focuses on the adoption of roads throughout Gilmer County, Georgia. Participation in the program is free.
This innovative program provides private citizens, businesses and organizations an opportunity to support the countywide anti-litter campaign. It is an effective and inexpensive project that allows residents to contribute to the well-being of their communities and generates publicity for their service activities.
What Keep Gilmer County Beautiful requires:
- Perform litter removal in your Adoption Location.
- Attend a safety meeting before actively removing litter from your Adoption Location.
- Conduct a minimum of four (4) cleanups annually.
- You are encouraged to participate in the annual Great American Cleanup.
- Complete the Keep Gilmer Beautiful Cleanup Report and Release Form and return after your clean up activities via this website’s online submission area.
What Keep Gilmer County Beautiful provides:
- Personalized appreciation sign.
- Safety and cleanup supplies (gloves, trash bags, grabbers, etc.)
- Free-of-Charge waste collection at one of our convenience centers.
- Recognition of active Adoption group accomplishments.
How to get involved:
- Contact the Keep Gilmer Beautiful office at keepgilmercountybeautiful@gmail.com or by calling 706-635-4589 to inquire about roads in your area which need an adoption partner.
- Complete the Keep Gilmer Beautiful application for the Adopt-A-Road program and the agreement of maintenance form and return the forms to the our office.
